2009 Napa Valley Viognier

Vineyard:The 2009 Lava Vine Viognier is sourced exclusively from a ranch situated in the heart of Oakville . The deep sandy soils here provide for excellent drainage, while the late morning fog, through the growing season, allows for a long and mild ripening process.

Tasting Notes: Successive picking passes result in sun touched clusters which exhibit fantastic tropical fruit intensity. These delicate and deep fruit flavors are preserved by gently pressing the whole cluster fruit once it arrives at the winery just after day break. The result of this laborious process is an ideal mix of fruit, floral notes, and acidity. honeysuckle, white blossom and brown spice aromas are followed by Meyer lemon peel, apricot and subtle vanilla notes. Hints of minerality accentuate the acidity that expands the complexities of this wine.

2007 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Vineyard: The vineyards are located in the Calistoga Region or AVA of upper Napa Valley.  We used a selection of two different Cabernet Sauvignon Clones (7 and 337) along with a small amount of Cabernet Franc.  These vineyards are on the north end of Silverado trail and are planted to 6 by 3 foot spacing on the classic bale loam soils of Napa Valley.

Tasting Notes: The color is garnet red and offers aromas of cherry jam, hints of black currant, wild sage and black olive along with subtle floral notes from the Cabernet Franc.  The palate is smooth and polished with medium weight fine grained tannins and flavors of black cherry and plum on the finish.

2007 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Vineyard: The vineyards are located on the eastern Vaca Mountains of Napa Valley near lake Hennessey also know as Prichard Hill although not a separate AVA it has a strong identity for big mountain Cabernets.  The soils up there are red and rocky with low vigor and low water table resulting in stressed vines and concentrated flavors.

Tasting Notes: The color is dark ruby red and nearly opaque. The aromas are dark baked cherries-blackberry followed by baking spices of mace and brown sugar-molasses and notes of earth-forest floor. The palate is bold and rich with layered fine grain tannin and massive concentration. There are flavors of dark chocolate, candy licorice and offers a long finish with a dark cherry and cassis fruit.

Barrel Program: 28 months in 100% new French barrels. Racked and blended prior to bottling.

2007 Knights Valley Syrah

Vineyard:Our Syrah is sourced from the Lawer Vineyard in Franz Valley adjacent to our own Lava Vine Vineyard.  The soils are composed of an alluvial fan that is sandy loam-clay in composition.  It has moderate vigor with good drainage.  We have been working with this Syrah Vineyard since 2004 and have always liked the Estrella River Clone flavor profile which offers dark bramble fruit with earthy spiciness.  The Estrella River Clone is one of the first clones of Syrah that was planted in the West Coast.

Tasting Notes: Color is dark ruby red with purple hues. The aromas are lifted with dark wild blackberry fruit and spices of clove, anise and toasted walnuts. There are complex layering aromas of dried meat, bacon and fresh leather/rawhide along with hints of violets. The palate is full and round on the entry with a fine grained texture. The palate is elegant and long with flavors of roasted coffee and dark cherry.

2007 Napa Valley Petite Sirah

Vineyard: This Petite Sirah was sourced from the Tofanelli vineyard in Calistoga which is a 3rd generation property farmed organically for over 90 years by the family. The soils are a blend of bale loam and volcanic alluvia from the Vacas Mountains nearby.  We were very lucky to get our hands on these grapes as the vines are dry-farmed and produce a very low crop each year.

Tasting Notes: The color is dark ruby red with purple hues. There are bright fruit aromas of cherry-plum jam and blackberry fruit along with hints of leather/earth tones, anise and sage brush. The palate is focused and firm with a texture offering flavors of candied cherry, and tobacco, finishing long with chewy tannins.
